The Xel-Há park was born in 1995. Its name means the place where the water is born, due to the multiple underground rivers that flow into its famous cove. This was in turn the center of commerce, and a refuge for sailors in the past. Legend has it that the gods created three guardians to protect it: the iguana, which would be the guardian of the land (Huh), the parrot fish would become the guardian of the water (Kay Op) and finally the pelican, which would be the guardian of the air (Chuc Kay)..
